UCLA's hilly, complex campus is hard to navigate.

Problem

The hilly terrain of UCLA's campus presents a navigation challenge, especially for individuals with accessibility needs. The non-intuitive layouts of buildings also cause confusion, even among upperclassmen and staff. This complexity leads to many resources and study spots remaining undiscovered due to the campus's inaccessible and confusing nature. Visitors, including those attending family week or participating in campus tours, face similar challenges.

Solution

At Trek, we are developing a campus navigation system focused on accessibility. Trek provides step-by-step directions using ADA-approved entryways, paths, and ramps, while also helping users find water fountains and bathrooms. The system aims to highlight the most efficient routes to various campus facilities. Still in early development, we are currently conducting more research to better understand and meet the needs of students and visitors at UCLA.
